Biography: Dr Kamal Jabbour is an Associate Professor of Computer Engineering in Syracuse University's College of Engineering, the Director of the Advanced Course in Engineering, an Adjunct Instructor in Sports Broadcasting in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, the Chief Engineer of i2sports TrackMeets.com, and a Contributing Writer at the Syracuse Post-Standard.
Dr Jabbour received the Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering with Distinction in 1979 from the American University of Beirut, and the Doctor of Philosophy in 1982 from The University of Salford in England. He has conducted collaborative research with International Business Machines Corporation on high-speed computer networks, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation on artificial intelligence in electrical power systems, and Sensis Corporation on system assurance.
Dr Jabbour enjoys teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses. He received the General Electric Award for Teaching Excellence in 1987, and the Outstanding Undergraduate Instructor Award in 1997 from the Gamma Eta Chapter of Eta Kappa Nu, the International Honor Society for Electrical Engineers. In 1999, Dr Jabbour created and directed the Central New York Advanced Course in Engineering, the Nation's only university-based engineering leadership development program.
In his youth, Kamal won three Lebanese national junior and scholastic championships in chess and qualified for the Lebanese Olympic team. Recently, Kamal turned into a competitive long distance runner, a nationally-ranked indoor miler, and the organizer of two successful relay world records. Mixing business with pleasure, Kamal developed i2sports TrackMeets.com, a pioneer in live sports broadcasting on the World-Wide Web. He writes a weekly column on running in the Syracuse Post-Standard, and serves as Trustee for the Ed Stabler Syracuse Chargers National Distance Running Library. In December 1998, Kamal received Runner's World Bob Rodale Golden Shoe Award for contributions to the running community.
Dr Jabbour is an ordained elder of The United Church of Fayetteville.
